It’s YOLO for Yi Miao

To all the future WAT USA adventurer, my name is Matthew, I have participated WAT USA in 2017 summer. I worked at Cedar Point, one of the best amusement park in the world. I was a food and beverage associate working at Auntie Anne’s.

A little bit of the job experience before I move on to my testimonial. The job was pretty fun, get to liaise with different kind of people, learn the culture, learn the language, learn the joke and play together all the way. In 2017, the working hours is so long, but that’s what make you rich enough when you travel. Hence, do not complain for long hours, strive for more and get the money, that’s what the Malaysians here do. The job itself could be pretty tedious, but make sure you know how to have fun from it.

For me, I am an open-minded person, so I thought USA is a good country to be, guess what, I am in love with the USA as soon as I arrived there. The weather is nice, the people is nice, everything is just nice to me. Just one thing shocked me, the toilet is soooooo open (there’s a gap in stalls) HAHA, people outside can actually know what is going on inside, but I get used to it after that. The best thing in the USA is that people don’t judge, you can do whatever you want, people don’t care, people might see individualism as selfish sometimes, in fact you get benefit from it too.

The most fun part was everything apart from working!! Just keep one thing in your mind, YOLO. Go clubbing, partying, skinny dipping, endless drinking, take lots of weird photos during your travel, go as wild as you can!! Just do something out of the range, that will make a lot of good memories.

Of course, find good travel mates, they will definitely help you a lot during the travel period, including planning, expenses sharing, problem solving, all of these will elevate your travel quality and experience. The most important thing that I learned was networking. Networking gives your precious information, make you achieve your goals easier. This could apply in every aspect, you never know who is beneficial to you, just talk to everyone, make friends with them.

People will tend to squeeze their time to visit as many places as they can during the travel period. Please, do not do that, slow down the pace, fast-paced itineraries will only exhaust you.

For me, I enjoy travelling, in a slow pace. The unforgettable moment in my life is I spent my day in chilling in the one of the most hectic city, San Francisco. We rented a nice Airbnb in Daly City, a hill housing area located in South San Francisco. The three-story house is spacious, the top to bottom view is spectacular, the owner is nice and friendly, there’s play station and ping pong table, and also, free flow of alcohol. In the early morning, I enjoyed my coffee with piano music playing on the background while looking at the sunrise, having all the good vibes. Then I went for a jog around the neighborhood, caught up with the people around. After having breakfast, my friend and I will had some game time in the living room. No exact plan for the day, enjoyed the lazy morning, went to town whenever we wanted. By the evening, we started preparing food for the night. Then we ended the day by eating, playing, drinking, laughing and repeated it the next day. This is so called “the good life travel” and I bet you guys would want to try it out.

My advice to the future WAT USA adventurers, if you are worried about the money to enroll the program, talk to Yeen. Just kidding. I bet you guys can definitely earn back if you work hard enough, even if you don’t, you can always earn back later, but what you can’t earn is the chance, the memories, the experience in USA. Think wisely, you might not going to step into the United States in your entire life, if you miss out the chance, so don’t hesitate anymore, contact OOTB. I guarantee you, you wont regret.
